I have a hosting plan with a known provider. I also host multiple domains on the same package and it was working fine for the first 4-5 years. I was satisfied with the host and their support.

Last year all my sites got the same message: " Hacked by Indonesia Hackers " or some such...

I spoke to hosting support and they advised me to buy Sitelock protection, which I did.

After a couple of months, I got "hacked" again. On asking support what the so called sitelock protection does to save me from these attacks, they said "Oh that a basic plan, you need some TRUESHIELD protection" which I signed up for at an exorbitant cost. Separate cost for each domain!! $144 approx.

Now Sitelock controls all those sites and I get "hacked" every 2 months.

What is funny is that apart from this, which I manage to resolve myself, there is a DNS routing error which is not in my control or the hosts control.

Last week I asked the host to get Sitelock off my plan. Since then all my sites are down everyday for a few hours. And I cannot seem to shake them off.

This is criminal intimidation and extortion by Sitelock.

I am moving far away to another host soon and I've lost a lot of money with Sitelock already.

Do not fall for this scam!

Reason of review: Poor customer service.

Sitelock Cons: Hidden costs, Intrusion, Scam, No security.

This happens to me too

By Indonesian hacker.

Again and Again.

If malware infected files again hostgator will permanent suspend account.I must buy sitelock.

Can I make a guess and you're with Hostgator? The exact same happened to me with them.

They'll refused to acknowledge it was their fault or their server got hacked. They'll try to put the blame on you. It feels like they intentionally make there services vulnerable just to upsell and "force" you to buy Sitelock.

I've never had to do this with other hosting companies. Highly unethical.

This is scary. I think I will experience similar things if I don't get my sites out of my current hosting account. Also I have to change my credit card bc Sitelock keeps on finding ways to charge me even though I put a block on the credit card.

This is classic extortion. Same thing happened to me with hostgator.

Over the last few weeks I have been getting lots of email's from them pushing sitelock on me. I have had no problems for 5 years, and have security plugins installed and up to date on my wordpress sites, so I ignored them.

Well guess what, I now have malware on one of the sites, and they have shut down all 5 of my sites. When I contacted hostgator support (after wasting 30 minutes being redirected to sitelock support), they told me I needed to have sitelock remove the malware, and then they would scan it and unlock my sites. I will be moving my sites to a new host ASAP.

Avoid Hostgator and Sitelock. This is a complete scam.

Bluehost is going the same after 10 years, goodbye. I don't want to hear this hacking ***.

Only the host, it's employees. or Sitelock can get to, change or alter my files.

Nothing should be uploaded when my files are for downloading only.

same thing happened to me too. I've never had an issue and as soon as I was enabled with sitelock through godaddy I had site attacks and on going threats and issues...

Exactly the same thing has happened to me! I am hosted with Hostgator, who recommended Sitelock to me.

Within a week of installing Sitelock I had malware on my domain, which has shut the email and the domain down.

.... and Sitelock has said it will do nothing to help unless I pay extra to have the malware removed and upgrade my plan.

It's a disgusting scam - a fraud.

I'm not sure whether Hostgator is in on the fraud, but they don't seem to be doing much to rectify it or protect their customers.

AVOID SITELOCK
